What is my email address?

Faculty and Staff:

Your email is the same as it was.

Students

Your Gmail username is your MyBama email address.

For example, John Doe with the MyBama username “jdoe” would have “jdoe@culverhouse.ua.edu” as his email address.

Where do I login?

You check your mail by going to mail.cba.ua.edu.

How long will I keep my email address?

This is meant to be a permanent address, meaning that our goal is for you to have this address forever, even after you graduate.

How do I forward my Gmail mail to MyBama?

If you’d like, you can forward all your C&BA mail to any address, including your MyBama address. Here’s how:

  1. Log into your Gmail account.
  2. Click on the “Settings” link in the top, right corner of the screen.
  3. Click on the “Forwarding and POP” tab.
  4. Check the “Forward a copy of incoming mail” option and enter the email address to which you want all your mail forwarded.
  5. Select whether you’d like to maintain a copy of forwarded email in your Gmail account or delete it.

How do I forward MyBama mail to my Gmail account?

The easiest and most reliable way to check your MyBama email using your Gmail account is to forward your MyBama email to your Gmail account.

You can do that using the MyBama Automatic Mail Forwarding Form.

Alternatively, you can use the Gmail Mail Fetcher feature to POP your mail from any POP mail server.

How do I enable POP or IMAP access in Gmail?

POP and IMAP are two common email protocols for downloading mail. You can enable access for both POP and IMAP for your Gmail email by doing the following:

  1. Log into your Gmail account.
  2. Click on the “Settings” link in the top, right corner of the screen.
  3. Click on the “Fowarding and POP/IMAP” tab.
  4. If you want to enable POP download, under “POP Download”, select either the “Enable POP for all mail” or “Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on” option.
  5. If you want to enable IMAP access, under “IMAP Access”, select the “Enable IMAP” option.

Does Gmail work with my phone?

Currently, only the Blackberry device has a devoted Gmail client available for it. If you don’t have a Blackberry, you can check gmail on another device with POP forward (see how to enable POP access) or using the internet interface, but it is not a great solution.

Note: using a Blackberry for Gmail means that you can ignore the desktop re-director and all of the built in email. Those applications were the ones with which we’ve historically had the most trouble.

How do I change my Google calendar sharing settings?

You can share your Google calendar with everyone on the CBA domain, share only with specific people, or keep your calendar completely to yourself. To change your calendar sharing settings:

  1. Login to your Google calendar.
  2. Click on the “Settings” link in the top-right corner of the page.
  3. Click the “Calendars” tab.
  4. Click the link in the “Sharing” column beside the calendar you want to change (the link should read either “Share this calendar” or “Shared: Edit settings”).
  5. Make the changes you want and click the “Save” button.

How do I set Gmail as my default email client?

You’ll need to install Google Talk, which among other things, sets Gmail as your default email client. Google Talk can do the following:

  • Notify you of new messages in your Gmail inbox.
  • Notify you of Google calendar appointments.
  • Set Gmail as your default email client.

To install and configure Google Talk, do the following:

  1. Go to google.com/talk.
  2. Click the “Download Google Talk” button to download the Google Talk setup file.
  3. Run the downloaded setup file to install Google Talk.
  4. Once Google Talk is installed, login to Google Talk using your C&BA email address and Gmail password.
  5. Once logged in, click the “Settings” link in the top, right corner of the Google Talk window.
  6. Select the “General” tab.
  7. Make sure the “Open Gmail when I click on email links” checkbox is checked.

That’s it. You can close the Google Talk window at this point, and you can access Google Talk in the system tray if you ever need to change settings.
